Getting ready for spring!

This was my back deck last year...I 'Waterlogued' the image.

Close up of the birdies last year. The female cardinal (not shown) perches herself at the transom of the bay window in the kitchen when the feeder is empty and sings to me. I'm really not crazy, she has done it a number of times.

I got a great deal on this table and 2 chairs from Ballards Outlet a few years back. The heat and the elements 'weathered' them more than I like. The bamboo director style chairs were a find from HomeGoods and I had custom  canvas covers in good outdoor fabric made.

Time to do something.

I bought Sherwin Williams 'Deckscapes' exterior deck stain #3001 Shagbark. 

It has a paint texture, not thin like stain.

All painted....really happy with the finish.

Next project is to do some repair on the deck and paint it too.

I 'think' I want to paint a design on the deck floor to look like a rug.

I'm ready to get some color out there.  Are you planning for spring?

Outdoor Clean

I was spending time with a sweet friend (younger, as in young enough to be my daughter) of mine yesterday who has a small lake house.

Her husband bought it before they were married and took it down to the frame.

Weekend projects of rebuilding and a chance to get to the north Georgia mountains to breath some fresh air.

Currently there is one bath and the budget isn't allowing an indoor addition at this point.

I suggested an outdoor shower.  

The options are endless, it just takes a bit of  creativity for your space.

It can be elaborate or simple dictated by your taste and budget.

Perfect for getting lake grunge off before coming in the house!

Great stone surround with the foliage.

Designed among the trees gives a more private feel.

Love the pergola overhead!

Life in the Trees

Tree Houses!

Today we are going sight seeing.

Get your overnight bag ready and let's paddle to our destination.

I hope you have your hiking boots as we are going exploring.

A team went ahead to prepare for our stay.

The next place we paddle to we can spread out a bit for the night.

How are you liking our excursion so far?

(part of the 'go ahead' team here, as no boys allowed on our adventure).

Fresh air is so invigorating!

Roughing It

This time of year I begin to think about how to expand our living area beyond the 4 walls of our home.The warmer temperatures call for opening up all of the windows and letting the nice breeze in or hanging out outside. 

Growing up for the most part of my life in southern California, I am particularly partial to being on or near the water.

I'll take my champagne out here!

Later in the summer, the foliage will be full and protective.

This would be a great space in the mountains.

What a fabulous iron arbor.

Covered under the brick arches moving to outside, same brickwork flows inside and out

this reminds me of a southern Cali backyard

Perfect for a small spot...love the slate tile, coy pond and just the right amount of gardening for me.

How about a balcony space?  I imagine the view at night is quite nice.

The lattice detail here is stunning...I think sitting out here one would get the feeling of being in a tree house with all the lush greenery.

This shady loggia was nothing more than a walkway from the house to the backyard. Now, notice the antique iron lampposts and metal arbor give these vines a place to grow and create a roof for this outdoor room. Concrete pavers in two colors created this checkerboard floor that contrasts nicely wi th the striped fabric on the chairs. I love all the flowers in the pots, wouldn't this be a great setting to sit and enjoy your morning coffee?
