Amanda Talley and a Project Monday

Last summer while visiting with my friend Valorie,

The Visual Vamp, we went to visit artist

Amanda Talley.

I had admired and adored her work for quite some time.

There's something about the swirls and angles...

...mixed with textures...

...and great interest.

This was a commission...would it ever look great in my home!

As much as I love her work, her talent is out of my budget.

Here Valorie and I caught Amanda working in her studio. I have to say, she is such a sweet girl and had us up for tea in her home above the studio.

To our surprise, Amanda showed us a line of fabrics she has with her art. I thought right then that my dream of having a little piece of Amanda Talley art might change!

This design along with the colors would work well for a project I had going on. I ordered 2 yards, but the yardage does not come as a contiguous piece, each yard (54"wide) looks like a canvas.

It Takes a Village!

I ordered artist stretcher boards and enlisted 2 of my sweet girlfriends to come help me.

Well 'help me' is not the right term, 'do it for me' is more like it. It was hard for me hanging on crutches to do much of anything.

Here, Kathryn (Kathryn Dillon Drapery & Design)

and Deb are getting the frame put together.

We covered the frame first with muslin and then centered and checked and double checked and pinned...

...here it is all put together.

So what do you think? Eventually I will frame it.

Gray and Yellow Decor

Do you find yourself in different seasons of your life being drawn to certain colors?

There is something about gray and yellow that gets my attention.

Gray is a cool color with either a blue or black base. Since I am not a 'blue' girl, I prefer the black, and the the 'coolness' brings a bit of crispness to the room in my mind.

Yellow - with a golden undertone - is the warmth that welcomes.

I want my friends and family to feel comfortable in my home and not be uncomfortable kicking their shoes off and cuddling up on the sofa or chair!

Of course I love black too, and here it grounds the room a bit.

Loving the balance of textures along with the colors!

It hit me with the living room renovation I am in the middle of, I have been adding yellow and gray around the home for the past year. Robert Allen fabric on the kitchen chairs!

SW Ellie Gray painted in the master and the bed dressed in golden embroidered shams and bolster with a creamy matlesse.

Golden tones in the art as well against the gray wall.

The living room ceiling in SW Rock Bottom, walls SW Origami White.

This fabric is on order for skirting a table.

I adore this Amanda Talley fabric that I want to do 'something' with.

New Orleans field trip

This precious one is who got me on the plane to NOLA.

Her mom came into my life when she was 14 and I love her as my very own. I view this little bundle as the first of my grandchildren. Those of you that are already grandma's know the love felt and awe of our Creator that creates such miracles.

I was graciously invited to stay with my sweet friend Valorie of The Visual Vamp, and her tango man, Alberto Paz. It was so much fun to meet Amanda Talley and visit her gallery, studio and home.
