Wood You?

I want a place in the woods...

....with a big open floor plan

a bit rustic with a bit of formality...

...a kitchen that will welcome cooks and friends

...and enjoy the view from the porch and warmth from the fireplace.

How about this rustic bath with hammered iron bases and cast concrete sinks?

We will one day (hopefully in the next couple of years) go west into the woods of Colorado or Oregon and build a home. Will you come see me?

  2. Anything in Cashiers is a nice rustic hangout. Love these!

And what pretty chairs you got from your grandfather. I can't wait to see what fabric you put on them.

  7. Renae, this house was exactly what I had in mind when I was still planning on my own place in Montana. We have a place right on the Gallatin River we rent that we just adore, and I don't have to worry about upkeep and other concerns. Why don't YOU build one in Big Sky, and I will come visit you!

  8. YES! I'll come see you. How about I just live with you!

Our plan is to find some space in lower Colorado (Durango and surrounding area).

Maybe we'll be sorta kinda neighbors!

  11. Renae - I can't tell you how many pages from magazines I have saved over the years of houses in the mountains of North Carolina! (Of course, Colorado or Oregon will be gorgeous, too!!)I love the mix of log or stone walls with beautiful fabrics and a little formality. Your photos are wonderful and I hope your dream comes true!

  14. I remember this cabin from when it was in the magazine. lovely to see it again. If I am correct, I believe it has some elements from the old Pine Crest Inn in Tryon, NC, my hometown.

lovely post. (I know it's an older one for you, but I enjoyed it...)
