Project Monday

The refinishing of my late grandma "Punkin's" sofa has been a bear to say the least.
As I have mentioned before it is almost 70 years old and I'm almost certain the original finish was still on it. Kind of an orange-ish hue, not my fave.
I got all the varnish stripped and the wood cleaned. If I could have had the piece more at eye level my back would have appreciated it.
I am not the spring chicken I used to be!  I love the burlap and horse hair as well as the cotton batting.
I stained it with Minwax Ebony.
Here she is today with her wax on!
I will be making my decision on the fabric this week.  Something creamy in linen.  I know Punkin would be pleased.

The next trick for me is to figure out how to clean the splatters on the garage floor before the MR gets home from his business trip!  Any suggestions?

Working on an entire LR reno, can't wait for it to be finished so I can show you!

  1. Impressive work, Renae!

That looks like it took a LOT of elbow grease ;-)

  2. What a wonderful piece, I can't imagine stripping all of that scroll work! I can't wait for you to finish it and show us all. Are you doing the upholstery yourself?

  3. Renae your sofa is amazing and I cannot wait to see the fabric and it finished!! Great job!

  4. Renae, you go girl! I can't wait to see it. I want to come visit you when you get this room done & see all your painting progress. I know it is beautiful!

  5. Thank goodness you had a before link!!! :)

Wow! I appreciate all your work. If I may ask two questions. What did you use to remove the varnish and What type of wax did you use. That ebony stain is gorgeous.

    Standing ovation happening in Phoenix!

Thanks for coming by! I will always respond to your questions when you provide me with your email address.
